2008 Ford Taurus/Taurus XFor over 20 years the Taurus has been setting trends for styling, safety, and comfort. The 2008 Taurus and Taurus X continue that tradition. For those who care about their families, the Taurus has been rated the safest full-size car in America based on NHTSA’s five-star front and side crash test ratings as well as IIHS’ “Top Safety Pick.” There are over 500 changes to Taurus for 2008, including a new 3.5-liter engine, an updated look, and more sound-deadening materials than ever before.

Starting with more power: the Taurus and Taurus X have bumped up the 3.0-liter Duratec to a 3.5-liter V-6, which now produces 263 hp and 245 lb-ft of torque that’s matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The new fascia includes the three-bar grille that identifies it as a Ford vehicle. New taillights and dual tailpipes add to the sedan’s contemporary exterior design. Inside, the Taurus has more front and rear seat leg room than any other vehicle in its segment, and feels almost “limo-like” for those passengers. The rear seats split 60/40 for cargo-carrying capability, and the front passenger seat folds down so you can even carry items up to 9 feet in length.

What’s nice about the Taurus and Taurus X is the ride quality. The solid chassis not only provides outstanding safety, but also delivers a control, well-damped ride that will provide hours of comfort on long highway trips. The good news is the large gas tank, so you can travel over 550 miles on a single tank of fuel! The better news is that the AWD version of the Taurus sedan gets 28 mpg on the highway.

Taurus X is a crossover based on the Taurus, with more room and cargo capability and all the good things from the Taurus sedan. Both models offer Ford’s SYNC connectivity system that provides hands-free cell phone operation, as well as being able to control your MP3 player through the steering wheel controls. The Taurus X crossover offers a voice-activated DVD navigation system, as well as an available DVD player for rear-seat passengers.

All of these features make the 2008 Ford Taurus/Taurus X a smart choice for a wide range of consumers.
