2008 Ford EdgeThe Ford Edge epitomizes the word crossover: it’s easy to drive, rides and handles like a sedan, and features tailgate convenience with plenty of interior room. What the standout is on top of all those advantages is the efficient 24-mpg highway fuel economy that Edge also delivers.

One look and you know the Edge isn’t a cookie-cutter SUV wanna-be. It’s a bold, dramatic design that starts with Ford’s identifying three-bar grille. A raised beltline, sweptback windshield, and well-defined wheel arches project not only power but elegance that’s unexpected in a vehicle in this class.

What’s nice about the Edge is that its performance backs up its good looks. A 3.5-liter V-6 in both the FWD or AWD versions makes 265 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque, and is mated to a six-speed transmission that shifts smoothly and helps achieve those impressive fuel economy numbers.

While we like a vehicle that scoots down the road efficiently, we also look for one that is comfortable doing so. That’s the essence of Edge. Starting with an exceptionally quiet interior, the Edge seats five in comfort, and can haul people as easily as it carries cargo (up to 8 ft long — cargo, not people — with the fold down front passenger seat). We also love the available features like SYNC audio/Bluetooth system for its ease of use, the voice-activated navigation system for its help in keeping us from getting lost, and the DVD rear seat entertainment system for the kids to help us from losing our minds!

When it comes to protecting the family, no one does it better than Ford and the features in the Edge. The Personal Safety System® that includes myriad airbags and seatbelt systems designed to protect the occupants is only trumped by Ford’s exclusive Safety Canopy™ side curtain airbags. Designed using Ford’s patented roll-fold technology, in the event of a crash, the roll-fold bag will deploy between the occupant’s head and the side of the vehicle. No other crossover has this capacity.

Technology, fuel economy, comfort, driveability, and great styling: what else could you possibly want or need in a crossover? The Ford Edge does it and has it all.
